My Fortress

I had a dream again that I have had before.  I was somewhere that resembled a broken down abandoned castle. It was as mysterious as the Vatican.  Somehow I knew it had been used for several different purposes through the years; religious, military, and other.  It had many different levels and secret places, used and unused.  I wasn’t sure why I was even there.

Someone not fully visible, was helping me find interesting pieces of the past with the ideas and stories that went along with it. Part of the time my guide was my then boss, but when I’ve had the dream before it has been other people as well. This fortress turned castle was right on the edge of the water.

It was built down into the descending cliff, combining rock and constructed form together. Parts of the foundation were under the water too, so this abandoned building was also water torn and damp with green, orange, and brown moss growing along the seams of the rocks.

I was shown a room that looked like it used to be an armament room. It had been filled with all kinds of old fashioned weapons and ammunition previously. It still smelt of its former contents, but was no longer full.  It now had no important use.  I was shown several hidden rooms wherein there were old, even ancient relics and answers to stories long ago told.

One room was clearly recently being used, having channels of tubes going through it, like at the bank drive through. All the tubes anchored into and all along the wall and elbow curved at the end were dank and dusty on the surface. Any color long since worn down.

It looked like paychecks or receipts or some official papers came down through the tubes. I could tell they were relatively modern but they appeared old and moldy. The rotted out sheet rock on parts of the walls made some tubes precariously loose. The partly peeled back walls revealed more of the source.  One tube was broken and still pieces of paper were coming out of it.

Some of the papers were scattered in decaying piles on the floor, some glued into the wall to both hide them from any who may venture near and to clumsily fix the peeled back sheetrock. It was as if they had once served as a fragile fix to conceal over the source, partly visible in the dark recesses behind.  Sadly, some papers had drifted down onto the floor and others peeled off and torn.

Outside there was a petroglyph of a ship; ancient and legendary like the Flying Dutchman, etched on the stone wall. I saw it as I was taking a small boat to another area long since deserted. I was taken to the spot where to find it.  Though it was hard to get to, it was easy to find.

There were other nooks and crannies wherein were found similar treasure coves, all hidden from the modern world. The broken down building provided an abundance of long forgotten paths. I could get to most all of them in the small boat.

I was shown it all in secrecy, and had a hard time locating the same places when I tried to go back later to show someone else.  In the nearby lagoon were all types of items to see; old ship stuff and parts, building pieces, and tossed furniture; but no one thought it was anything significant besides me.

I went into a room on the side of the lagoon launch that used to be used as a chapel, most recently LDS.  Time and construction had ravaged it.  It was slowly sinking into the water. No one would go to the back of the area with me to the rear room which was partly flooded with water.

I did, however; and found some great religious items which I grabbed. I don’t recall what they were, just that they were important to me and I didn’t want them to be lost. These included waterlogged books and programs and broken vessels. I also discovered some family photos which had no reason to be there.  I gathered them all before we had to leave. There was also something peculiar there from Italy maybe. It seemed out of place, and not a memory item, still it was there.
